Off into the Sunset……..

The first smile to cross my face was upon seeing that KSR's metamorphosis (new road surface) is all but complete, while the second appeared at noticing the emergence of a new Thai road sign "Sunset Street" …….curiosity and his cat needed an investigatory beer or two….. Well, maybe three.

The new two storey Sunset Street complex of bars (Sunset Bar), restaurant (Sabai Bar) and nightclub (Sanook) are a welcome addition to KSR's ever growing list of new watering holes and proof that change indeed can be for the good….

Greeted with a warm smile, good English and the menu (Thai/Western) by Ms.Noy before seated (speedy service) a quick scan of the Sabai Bar's fare saw that food prices we're reasonable (averaging: snacks Baht 50/ mains Baht 100). Beer prices (as per the menu) we're a little over the average (80-95 Baht draught/small bottle); however the "buy 2 get one free" promotion (that day) evened things out……and we hope to see more of this!

Although closed off, while my order was being prepared; a common Thai beer snack not found on their menu, but a test they passed successfully, I took my usual nose around and headed for the 1st floor. The staircase led me to a very casual large open area with tables, balcony overlooking KSR, cable TV, music, pool table and small chill out area all catering for those looking for a new no frills venue for a night out with new/old friends or a great vantage point to simply watch the KSR world pass by.

Two beers were down when one of the managers "Mr.Thun" rocked up asking if I needed anything else. I replied "How about a tour of rest of the complex?" to which he happily agreed. It was the paved walkway (the actual "Sunset Street" itself) which led to the rear of the complex that I was interested in as it was still being worked on and wasn't yet ready for a grand opening (All areas were targeted to be opened by April 1st).

From the hustle and bustle of KSR, "Sunset Street" transported me to an excellent chilled out Mediterranean style court yard with a raised deck area both serviced by the well stocked "Sunset Bar". This colourful area is not only home to the "Sanook" nightclub (small, more like a VIP room), but also standing impressively at the rear of the court yard stands a large continental style mansion which is home to the "Kraichitti Museum & Art Gallery".

The Sunset Street complex is yet another well thought out change for the better to the colourful international make up of KSR as its unique layout, features, facilities and overall size will merit its inclusion on the list of conquests of any adventurous KSR visitor. Enjoy…..

And remember…..

"I have lived and worked in Asia for 15 years. I've had the pleasure to view and experience many wonderful sights and meet and work with all manner of race and religions. From Mumbai to Melbourne I've found no other country or people that could persuade me to live anywhere else than here in Thailand."
