Although Buddy Lodge is certainly not a shopping mall, with local building restrictions, it's as close as you will get on Khao San. Venturing into the building, there's a general sense of this being a world within a world. Everything you can find on Khao San is there - the silver shops, accommodation, the bar - but it's all a notch up market and there's a very distinct feel of smooth professionalism about the place. There seems to be a problem with parking though - there's a number of classic motorcycles abandoned throughout the building.
Buddy Lodge certainly offers a lot. There's a basement shopping plaza which has a distinct emphasis on silver - hence the sign outside claiming Buddy Lodge as a Silver Trade Center.
There's more though - you can buy a nice new backpack down there and fill it up with trinkets from a number of gift shops You can also make your travel arrangements in air-conditioned splendor - at least one of Khao San's longest serving travel agent's has set up there. There's also the ubiquitous long-distance telephone and faxes services.

The rooms are nice, some deluxe rooms offer a nice little balcony where you can drink your afternoon tea or sip your pink gin. The swimming pool, gym and sauna are now finished. Rates are quite high - a single/twin standard room costs 2,000 Baht a night. The same at deluxe costs 2,500 Baht. There's a 10% service charge and VAT on top as well.
