National Parks
More than any other country, Thailand has an abundance of national parks designed to protect the kingdom’s natural legacy. Although the concept of national parks might immediately conjure images of greenery, hills and mountains, Thailand’s parks are incredibly diverse. To give you an idea of the scope available, some of Thailand’s islands are national parks in their entirety and the waters around them under park protection. Most are reasonably accessible, some offer accommodation through the National Park’s office, and all provide a sanctuary for a broad range of Thailand’s wildlife and marine life.

Parks
Every major city has its parks and of course Thailand’s cities are no exception. Luckily, there are probably more parks to choose from in Thailand than other destinations. Great places to visit and just take in the peaceful environment, or enjoy things like bicycle riding, boating, and a range of events laid on for visitors. Music – including in Bangkok music in the park offered by the Bangkok Symphony Orchestra – is a real favorite amongst Thailand’s park dwellers. Tai Chi and aerobics are other favorites, but in honesty its all there in abundance. Thailand’s parks literally are a breath of fresh air!

Shopping
If you live for shopping, you will want to live in Thailand! It's the key destination for the shopaholic and things couldn't have been made easier for you. Thailand's huge department stores and shopping centers rival any other country's shopping venues and house pretty much anything you can imagine - from the finest designers label clothes, watches, shoes, etc. to good quality 'generic' versions of the same at a fraction of the price! Alongside the glitzy departments stores are more wholesome areas where the real bargains are to be found and there are so many import-exporters that the signs are in Russian and a number of other languages! And of course the various regions within Thailand all house their own specialties - the south silver, the north silk, etc., etc. Don't be surprised if you have a big customs bill when you arrive home! It's shopping time!.

Temples (Wats)
Anyone going to Thailand should get used to one idea - you are going to see a lot of temples whether you seek them out or not. Take a journey of any decent length in Bangkok and you are sure to go past at least one, probably more. Temples play vital roles both in the society at large and local communities. Temples of course play the same role as places of worship in other religions, dealing with births, deaths, and marriages, but there are no set services in like, for instance, in a western church, and people turn up when they wish. People visit the temple when they are in need of spiritual guidance, when they are celebrating a special occasion, and when they need to receive a blessing or want to make merit in a bid to change their fortune or for a good afterlife. The temple is even a place to have your fortune told! Of course, many temples are steeped in history (some thousands of years) and have played key roles in the unfolding of Thailand's history. Although travelers and budget tourists stay in Thailand longer than your average tourist, it is still difficult to grasp the historical intricacies of specific temples in the relatively short time most people are in the country. But for many, historical relevance is not the main reason for a visit. Temple design and decoration and the ritual of daily temple life are spectacles that prove fascinating for the uninitiated. Simply put, temples offer a rich texture of sounds, smells and new experiences. They are places to enjoy that few visitors easily forget.
