Songkran Festival
The celebration of the Thai New Year turns Thailand's
streets into no-go zones for anyone who doesn't want to
get wet! What was originally a time for Thais to pay homage
to Buddha images and to sprinkle water on their elders
hands as a sign of respect, Songkran has become a nationwide
party where everyone throws bucketfuls of water over each
other. Buy your water pistols now before the price goes
through the roof! Khao San Road's celebrations are the
best in Bangkok, if not in Thailand. People now fly into
Thailand to get here in time for the street's celebrations.
If you don't like crowds, forget it! Songkran on Khao
San Road is usually sponsored by one of the big corporations
like Thai Airways or Coca-Cola, but aside from the occaisional
T-shirt, don't expect too much in the way of feebies!
We really recommend this - it's absolutely brilliant!
Well worth coming for...
