Beautifully crafted, Mekhala is a collection of three restored rice barges that provide the setting for daily journeys between Bangkok and Ayuthaya, retracing the paths of former royal processions. Their journey is a fascinating insight into how life on the river has changed over this time.
The magic of this voyage is its unhurried pace that captures the subtle colours and moods of life on the river over a 24-hour period. A couple of hours into the journey, the bustle of the city is replaced by the tranquillity of the countryside.
Along densely wooded river banks, tin and timber homes nestle in the hyacinth-clogged shallows housing families whose lives are still bound by the ancient waterway.

Co van Kessel, an innovative and adventurous Dutchman, pioneered bicycle tours in Bangkok more than 20 years ago. As a longtime resident and self professed lover of Bangkok, he understood very well the picture of accelerated urban development (grid locked traffic, concrete towers, and chocking pollution) that has plagued the recent image of the city. He also had a hunch that this was not what Bangkok or Thailand was all about.
Making it his goal to re-discover Bangkok, Co spent thousands of hours on his mountain bike exploring the vast network of local streets, alleyways, footpaths and canals between the main urban thoroughfares. Visit the website to learn more!

You’ll see the way real bangkokians live, smell the cooking spices and experience cultural life in the way only local people know. With “Follow Me” you’ll discover cultural landmarks, temples and markets finally crossing the ancient Chao Phraya River by boat to explore the lush and refreshing Prapadeang parkland known as the “lungs of Bangkok”.
