Only an hour's drive north of Chiang Mai, nestled in a rich green valley that time seems to have forgotten, is a Lisu tribal community that has managed to hold onto its cultural origins while benefiting from the progress of responsible tourism. A key factor in this success story was the establishment of the Lisu Lodge over twelve years ago. This award-winning eco-lodge is a sanctuary for Lisu heritage, a direct link to the heart of this fascinating tribal group and a proud member of the Asian Oasis Mythical Journeys. There's a tranquil and soothing atmosphere surrounding the settlement that is staffed and managed by a Lisu tribe. Built in traditional style with an eye for western comforts, the lodges overlook the lush fields of the valley.

Mekhala
7th floor, Nai Lert Tower, 2/4 Wireless Road
Lumpini, Pratumwan Bangkok Bangkok  10330
Tel: +66 (0) 2-655-6246-4
Fax: +66 (0) 2-252-4489
Beautifully crafted, Mekhala is a collection of three restored rice barges that provide the setting for daily journeys between Bangkok and Ayuthaya, retracing the paths of former royal processions. Their journey is a fascinating insight into how life on the river has changed over this time. The magic of this voyage is its unhurried pace that captures the subtle colours and moods of life on the river over a 24-hour period. A couple of hours into the journey, the bustle of the city is replaced by the tranquillity of the countryside. Along densely wooded river banks, tin and timber homes nestle in the hyacinth-clogged shallows housing families whose lives are still bound by the ancient waterway.
