A bit difficult to know where to put this one... Yes, Chabad House is a fine restaurant, but it's also much more. Chabad House is an international Hasidic movement with over 2,000 branches around the world. The purpose of the movement is to provide help and assistance for Jewish travellers and tourists abroad. With over 100,000 Jews coming to Thailand every year, Chabad House near Khao San Road is a hive of activity. Aside from genuine Kosher food, the building houses a synagogue and a full-time Rabbi (Rabbi Nechemya Wilhelm). Synagogue services are held daily at 10.00, with Friday evening services so popular that they are held in a local hotel. If you are Jewish, you should pop in.

A relative new comer to Khao San Road, but already a favourite… Khun Ben and his wife Khun Gy have invested earnings made in Krabi into a great little Italian place behind the temple… This is a genuinely good interpretation of Italian cuisine. Pizza’s and related products are cooked in a wood fired oven. It’s been said before, but you really can taste the difference! And they don’t skimp on the portions... you will leave their table stuffed! For this quality of food prices are fantastic. Garlic Bread 25 Baht, Caesar Salad 80 Baht, Lasagna 150 Baht, 8-inch Pizzas from 150-180 Baht, 10-inch Pizzas 150-210 Baht. Drinks prices even more unbelievable… Pepsi 10 Baht, Large Singha/Chang 80/60 Baht, Italian Red Wine 90 Baht a glass. It is difficult to be disappointed here.

Buddy Beer is nice - a big spacious bar with ceiling fans AND air-conditioning! A very classy feel about this place, reminiscent of some of the micro-breweries you find around Bangkok. There's a pretty extensive menu as well, offering Thai food, pasta, and a range of steaks. Coming in at 250 Baht, the steaks represent good value. Buddy Beer also offers pool tables and has it's own little coffee shop serving cakes and pastries.

Shambara Restaurant has a great reputation for their alternative to diluting Thai food for western palates. Their fusion of Thai and western cuisine is unique. The menu’s main courses are a delight, but their smaller dishes are remarkable. Do not eat the ‘Ham and Cheese’ Spring rolls; once you start, you won’t stop! Their salads offer vegetables, spices and fruits you wouldn’t think go together, but do so with good effect. Shambara’s unpretentious fusion cuisine is a massive draw, but the restaurant itself offers respite from the frenzy. A place to sit down, meet people and trade tales over great food and drink (local and foreign beers available). A warm atmosphere, friendly staff, Shambara is one of the best. Open 17.00-24.00 daily. Probably the biggest restaurant on Khao San Road, this one could probably fit in a number of categories! A spacious 60-table place, Khao Sarn Center offers Thai and European food with Dom Yum Gung the specialty of the house (145 Baht). Very much an extremely well stocked bar as well! Beer, cocktails - the Full Monty! In addition to all of this, Khao Sarn Center has pool - win six games in a row and get a free drink from the bar! Get fed up with that and you can go shopping at the numerous little outlets attached to the center. Khun Takorn is the owner. The Khao Sarn Centre has some of the best food around, the baguettes and noodles especially! It's got a good atmosphere and the staff are great.
