Stayed here for 5 nights November '08. Quiet, clean, rooms individually air conditioned, and comfortable. Staff (just 2 people, 1 at night) did not speak much English, but we communicated OK, anyway. Inn's entrance door is locked at night - good security - but, manager's room is just a few feet away and there was no grumpyness over admitting me later in the evening, even when he had to get out of bed to do so. Had a few things laundered - good job, very inexpensive. They care about your comfort.
Building is located off the street - down a narrow, unlit alley that has street food vendors' carts parked along one side at night. That accounts for the rating of 4, instead of 5. I arrived about 10:00 p.m. and wondered what I was getting myself into, but eventually got used to it and thought nothing of it. Heck, the streets aren't lit that well, either.
Good central location to all the places you want to visit, budget places to eat, travel agencies, internet cafes, places to make internationasl phone calls, and a 7-11. A couple of night markets just 2-3 blocks away. If you arrive by taxi or tuk-tuk,especially after dark, HAVE THE ADDRESS HANDY, as the place is not exactly a household name and the sign on the street is small, not illuminated, high up on a telephone pole, one-sided and not very noticable.
I'm returning to the area this winter and half of me wants to try something new just for variety; the other half wants to stay at Amarin Inn, again. It was very acceptable.
