| Lucky
Beer... Wayne Chester: "After visiting Khao San Road on 4 different occasions and always staying at the very friendly "Lucky beer" I am surprised that it isn't mentioned in you where to stay/eat section. The staff have very rarely changed since 1999 (our first visit) and even after a year break from visiting they always remember us which gives us a feeling like we are part of there family. The accommodation is very inexpensive and as it has never really changed (apart from the eating area) it is how we will always remember Khao San Road. The staff are the most friendliest in the area and are always there to assist any problem whatsoever. We are visiting again at Christmas and will once again stay at this pleasing establishment that needs to be advertised more on your website." All that will change in 2006 with the introduction of our new Travel Directory. Click here for more accommodation...
| Harn
House loong lyn writes: "Wanna do yourself a favour when your in Bkk? Then stay at the Harn House just off Khao Sarn Rd. along the little Soi that runs behind Khao Sarn on the far end from the police station. The rooms are standard fare, nothing really special in that regard - prices vary between 100 Baht for a small room with fan and no window, to 500 Baht for a great little self-contained private room at the back with it's own entrance. The very best thing about this place is the level of honesty employed by the owner/manager of this place. Her name is Sumana and she runs a safe and secure place. You can count on this woman's word being iron clad. The place is sometimes a little run down but Sumana makes up for any deficiencies with who she is and how she treats her guests. You can relax any concerns you might have with safety and security." Sounds good - thanks for passing it on...

| Four Sons Guesthouse Lydia (lydia_337@hotmail.com) writes: "Four Sons was a nice clean hotel with freindly service, 600b for a small double room, not the cheapest in the area but excellant value as rooms are air conditioned and have bathroom with heated water. We stayed here at the beginnig of september 2003 and will probably go back again at the end of our trip(although I don't have much else to compare it to).The four sons is in a good area close to the action but not to noisy, it was full every night we stayed there and doesn't take bookings so if want a room arrive early." | ||||||||||||||||

| Wild Orchid Lodge
Rod Sumner (thelegend@justinternet.com.au) writes: "I found this online (with a fair bit of luck). I have included this information below as I am sure many other people will find it useful. Wild Orchid Villa -- 8 Soi Chanasongkarm, Pra Athit Road, Bangkok e-mail address:- wild_orchid_villa@hotmail.com tel. 02-629-4378 fax02-629-0046" Rick writes: "The Wild Orchid House - when I first visited this place in early 2003 it had just opened and was partially under construction. They did a great job. This place is reasonably priced and well kitted out. If you can rough it a little more I recommend supporting the family run guesthouses like Thai Thai just down the road. But if you want a splash of backpacker's luxury, this is a great place with friendly people and very clean, well equipped rooms." Linda writes: "The Wild Orchid and the Wild Orchid 2 though not the cheapest, are a good value given the ammenities. Security is good, and the foyer and Restaurant drip with atmoshpere. The pool table is a great place to meet people with out having to drink. The rooms and shared bathrooms are squeaky clean. I was impressed that any time day the toilets were always well kept. The kitchen has good western food, but Thai dishes are a bit tame."

New Siam Kelley (bluestar2coyote.chilcotin.bc.ca): "Just got back from Thailand, my first ever overseas adventure. I am not a teen or even close any more and a female travelling alone. Stayed at the New Siam, felt very safe and the staff very friendly and helpful. Definitely want to do this again but will take my kids next time!" Excellent - glad you had a good time! Koert (koertmichiels@yahoo.com) writes: "New Siam 2 Guesthouse, is one of the best in Bkk. Nice, clean, and good food. The price is 500 Baht, and thats just fine." Carsten and Claudia Hamer (carstenhamer@web.de) write: "My remarks about the NEW SIAM GUESTHOUSE are already one year old but up-to-date. In November 2002 my wife and I travelled to Bangkok again. That time we had a very nice room at the NEW SIAM II. NEW SIAM I is very good but for our next stop in Bangkok this year again in November we are going to make a reservation from Germany for the NEW SIAM II. Jam, the the very friendly lady at the reception welcomes us already like good friends... its like coming home!!" Thanks for following up on last year's comments ... most of all thanks for passing on your news! Wish more people did it. Graham (fgjones10@hotmail.com) writes: "Could you please supply us with the tel no for the New Siam 2 Guesthouse as we need to book a room for a couple of days. Thank you." GARY (saltervaile@yahoo.com) comes up with the goods: "I left the New Siam 2 three days ago and the number on the card I picked up is 66 02 282 2795 fax 66 02 629 0303." That's great! Thanks! Carsten Hamer (carstenhamer@web.de) writes: I cannot remember how many times I walked the Khao San Road last year. In November we will be back. We prefer like every year the NEW SIAM GUESTHOUSE. Very friendly and clean there. Eva Lee (elee@3web.net) writes: "I stayed at the New Siam II the first week of December 2003 and enjoyed it very much. Loved how new and clean everything was: white tiled floors, screens on all windows and balconys to keep the bugs out, modern private bathroom, comfortable beds, TV with good movie channels, electronic lock safe. At only 650 baht a night, it was an excellent and inexpensive place to stay. New Siam II also has a pool to cool off in for a next to nothing cost and the restaurant has a good varied menu to choose from (Paad Thai is great here). I really enjoyed staying in such a central location that was great for shopping and easy to access the river taxi and buses. Eva Lee, Vancouver, B.C. Canada... Carsten Hamer (carstenhamer@web.de) writes: "November/December 2003 New Siam II, again our "home" in BKK, just one step away from the noisy Khaosan Road. Allready good but now even better since the pool is finished! See you in June with our kids!!"

| New Joe Guest House "Great
Web site. Keep up the Good work. I really enjoyed all the information almost as
much as I enjoy Khao San itself. Anyway, I just wanted to say that when we are
on Khao San we always try to stay at the "New Joe Guest House". It is always peaceful
and everyone is very friendly. The food area is clean and food is good, also the
best cup of coffee around and if you like american breakfast, the make a mean
eggs and fried potatos. Just thought that the New Joe would be a wonderful addition
to your list, but I don't know if I need anymore people fighting me for a room
there. Thanks Again !!!? Again, this is a place we are not familiar with... Anyone know it? "Addition to Gary Gyorkos posting about New Joe GH. It is located not at KSR, but 40 meters north, near the "tourist walkway". It's got a nice garden restaurant and many rooms. The wallpapers might be renewed... Here is the URL: www.newjoe.de." Juergen (thaiminator@gmx.de) "New
Joe Guest House is on a 'trok' (alley) just south of KSR.. called Trok mayam...
the hotel has been around since about '96... stayed there (and with Rainy at the
old Joes, just east ) on several occasions since '89... the rooms are kind of
small and not always the cleanest , but the service and staff are good... a bit
creepy for females returning late in that you have to navigate thru some dark
alleys. Joanne Sheil writes: "I stayed at New Joe Guesthouse in September 2001, it was great; nice and quiet, room was pretty old fashioned but who cares! Also, it had lockers you could rent out for, like, 5 baht a day I think, which was great for us - we put our tickets, souvenirs and unnecesary stuff in them and headed off to the islands, then picked them up a few weeks later." Thanks for this... Click here for more accommodation...

| Good Lucky Guesthouse Tran Ngoc Duong (sct@hcm.fpt.vn) from Vietam writes: "I've been to Bangkok 3 times... I stayed in Good Lucky Guesthouse, it's located in Khao San Road. The onwer is a kindly woman. You just pay 120 Baht for one night... Also there is so many interesting things..." Lee Nyhus (leeandjaps@btl.net) writes: "I spent lots of time in Thailand about 7 years ago. I was also working in Japan and would spend all of my vacations there. I am wow in Belize and REALLY miss Thailand. I loved looking at the pictures on your website! On Khao San Road, I alway stayed at "Good Luck Guest House". They had the best "home cooking" on the road. All of the locals used to eat there. There were three lovely ladies that ran the place." Anyone know where this is? Are they
talking about the same place?

7 Holder Guest House Been on the drag for about 10 years, but they have
just opened up their front door to Khao San Road. Very much the shape of things
to come... Very nice place - clean and glitzy. The guesthouse offers rooms with
a shower at 320 Baht a night, share a shower and you'll get a room for 240 Baht.
It also has great Internet access with 14 computers offering English and Japanese
fonts and ISDN connection. 1 hour - 45 Baht; 1 minute - 1 Baht. Printing available
at 10 Baht a sheet for black and white and 20 Baht a sheet for colour. What's
unique about this place? The only guesthouse offering Playstations to play your
favorite games. Again, 45 Baht for 1 hour of virtual fun. You'd have to be very
sad though... | |||||

| "Since
1998 I've stayed three times at Au Thong Guest House, Thanon Rambuttri. They didn't
change their rates all that time and a clean, fanned twin-share should still go
for 300 Baht. The counter crew is always kind and you can still call Sunya, the
manager, at 4am to open the front gate without getting a bad look. Also the restaurant
is great and much better than it costs. (Though Sunya's sister ain't in the kitchen
anymore). Great place to stay - a bit away from the discos." "Authong Guesthouse is a

Nat Guest House With sixteen rooms, one of the larger guesthouses on Khao San Road. Double rooms cost 160 Baht per night and triple rooms 240 Baht per night. One one room has air-conditioning and costs 350 Baht per night. Share showers (5 rooms to 2 showers ratio). Excellent restaurant downstairs serving Thai and European dishes. Bar sells beer and spirits.

"Instead of just being tied to a computer, go to the Nat Guest House,
particularly at night as they show blockbuster films on the big screen and other
screens around the cafe with surround sound as well. It's great entertainment,
especially as they don't charge for watching the films either. Just have a drink
or surf the net and enjoy the great sound!" "Seeing the photo of the Nat Guest House just reminded me that as a fairly regular visitor to Bangkok, it is nice to see that some places at least remain recognisable. I recall first sitting in the bar in 1989 during a thunderstorm while watching 'Gorillas in the mist'! It has been smartened up but, long may it remain the same!" | "SIAM
Oriental Hotel to me was an oasis in a pool of mud! For a bargain-and-a-half you'll
get the most necassarities, served with a smile. I found KSR fairly boring after
spending 4 days solo in BK, but thanx to the SIAM it was worthwile! Clean, spacious
room with shower and toilet for only "I have just come back from Thailand. We stayed at Siam Oriental for 4 nights. A double room (twin beds) with air-con costs only 500 bhts included American breakfast for two. Although there is no hot shower, we found it's o.k. as the water is not cold at all. You feel good to take 'warm' shower in such hot weather." Peggy Siu (babesiu@hotmail.com)
"I've stayed at Siam Oriental for a couple times. It was very nice, friendly
people. Cheap too!!!!" |
