Missing Person...

Rainer
Kocherscheidt writes: "I'm looking for my step-son
SURIYAN NAKNAKA, 19 years old, from Bangkok/Bang Yai,
slim, born April 12th. He hasn't checked in at home
for more than 3 months. Presumably he has slipped into
some sort of (gothic) subculture. We would highly appreciate
any information on his whereabouts. If he could just
drop his grandmother a line, we would be relieved."
Anyone know Suriyan? If so, please send Rainer an email.

One Week in Thailand?

Most people plan their trips to Thailand
as part of a larger Southeast Asian travel circuit,
visiting many countries in a limited period of time.
Thailand's diversity and beauty gives visitors plenty
of travel options. You could spend years exploring its
jungles, beaches, and urban temples. For the backpacker
who wants to see it all, planning an itinerary might
be stressful. Here, khaosanroad.com offers sample one-week
routes in Thailand, to fit different traveller’s needs.
Enjoy. Is Anne Merritt the new Jules Verne? Read "One
Week in Thailand?"

How to Meet Local People...

It’s
amazing – people come to Thailand to broaden their horizons
and learn as much as they can about a new culture, and
the only interaction they have with the locals is the
occasional word with Hlaing as he is tidying up your
table... and it’s only on your last day you find out
that Hlaing is actually from Rangoon. So, how do you
get to meet the locals? Well, intrepid reporter Anne
Merritt points us in the right direction. Click here
to read “How
to Meet Local People”.
Fairtex Muay Thai Courses in Samutprakarn...

Fancy yourself as a contender? You'd better get some
Muay Thai (Thai boxing) training then. Luckily Fairtex,
probably the most recognized name in the sport, has
a training center in Bangplee, going towards the airport.
Accommodation, state-of-the-art training facilities,
and some of the world's best trainers await you. Whether
you just want and afternoon learning Thai boxing or
want to get up there with the champions, Fairtex Bangplee
has the options for you. Click here to learn more about
Fairtex

This Week's Events...
Given the events in Bangkok this week (see local press
- Bangkok
Post), it is no longer advisable to visit the the
Government House protest area. I know
a lot of people have been going down there and taking
pictures (and even buying T-shirts to mark their visit)
but right now it's best avoid it. Remember: KSR is well
away from the protest area and probably as safe as it
normally is. Likewise the rest of Bangkok. Stear clear
of Government House right now and enjoy the rest of
the capital.
The Old Days on KSR... Pedrito
writes: "I echo Pierre's experiences
of KSR and PB guest house - couldn't possibly
write on a public site exactly what I saw
and experienced there. I do remember pool
tables with fans above each table - watched
one guy lift up the cue after a shot, the
cue got caught in the fan, spun around, hit
him in the head and knocked him for 6. That
was a while ago and times have changed. All
seems a bit tame now but still a place I like
to visit." Click here for more on the
old
days on Khao San Road.
Twisted Republic…
Fancy a night clubbing off KSR?

Republic is a decent bet... Check it out.

John@KSR:
Sadly,
some of
the recent
political
problems
in Thailand
have had
a negative
impact on
the number
of visitors
to the Kingdom.
Although
I'd never
tell people
to ignore
their embassy's
travel advisories,
it's a shame
not to be
in Thailand
at this
time of
year. Fact
is, I have
been in
Bangkok
throughout
the 'state
of emergency'
and the
biggest
problem
I encountered
during the
period was
being late
for work
a couple
of times
because
of political
rallies
- and that
happens
on regular
occasions
anyway.
You of course
have to
make up
your own
mind, but
to help
make the
decision
a bit easier,
some of
the accommodation

are offering
some nice
discounts!

Trying to find a child…
Mike
writes: "Help!!!
Trying to find Amerasian
child born 1975 in
Bangkok Thailand.
Please inform me of
the best way of finding
her. Details that
I can provide are
all from memory. The
mother's name is Suphan
Phetphakdi, last known
address, 4/10 Soi
Rajaphan, Bangkok
4 Thailand. Child
born 1975 Bangkok,
Thailand. The spelling
of the last name could
be wrong, it may be
Phetpakdi and the
spelling of the street
may be wrong as it's
been over 25 years.
I know this is not
much information,
but it's all I have.
You have made my day,
giving me a little
hope that I may find
her." Does anyone
know of any organizations,
or perhaps even government
departments that can
help people trace
"half Thai" children?
I remember there was
something, but if
my memory serves me
it was something to
do with Vietnam vets
- possibly not the
right thing. If you
know of anyone who
can help, let Mike
know and let
us know, too.
Aquatini for a Treat…
If you are looking
for a bit of a treat
and on the hunt for
some decent food,
Aquatini
might be the answer.
Housed in Navalai
River Resort,
it’s easy enough to
get to on foot – just
a short walk from
KSR – but as it’s
right next to right
next to Phra Athit
Pier, you can walk
straight off the boat
and into the restaurant...
excellent! It offers
both Thai or European
cuisine, and has a
well stocked bar offering
well good cocktails.
Prices are good, too.
Great for special
occasions.
Koh Tao on steroids…
A new
site on Koh
Tao hit the World
Wide thingymajig recently.
Nicely laid out, it's
got the full SP on
accommodation (budget
to exclusive), plenty
of info about Koh
Tao (maps, history,
etc.), activities
on the island (diving,
spas, Thai Boxing,
etc.), where to get
fed and watered, night
clubs... the works
actually! Check it
out...
