Danny Hall - Update...

Anybody who has visited a travel website over the last month or so is likely to have seen an item about Danny Hall, a British citizen who went missing on February 24th at the Full Moon Party on Koh Pha Ngan. Despite the masses of coverage - which included an item in Thailand's national press and coverage by the BBC - there's been no word about his whereabouts. Roy an old friend of Danny's, took it upon himself to visit Koh Pha Ngan to see what the current state of play is down there. We caught up with Roy after his visit and spoke to him. Click here to find out what he had to say. Click here for more on missing people in the region.

Hotels in Thailand and the rest of the world

Burma Cyclone...

The Burma cyclone is of course a human tragedy of biblical proportions, but trying to express the enormity of the issue in a newspaper column or through the limited dimensions of a television screen is nearly impossible. I recently received some images through the post (don't know who they are from - but thanks) that demonstrate clearly the size of the cyclone, and through that you can get a feel for what must have happened on the ground. Take a look at these incredible pictures of the Burma cyclone and make some donations at the organizations listed.

Spider Day 4...

"On On. Then stopping again, I saw a small temple and pulled in. I was minding my own business taking photos of the Cheddi, when the local nut job walks up. He wants to take a photo with my camera, no problem. He eventually clicks the button and proves that he is no David Baily. Then he asked me to take a photo of him. I accepted." Catch up with spider on his motorbike travels in Issan - day 4.

A Weekend in Nakhon Si Thammarat and Surat Thani Provinces...
Surat Thani is the biggest province in southern Thailand, covering about 12,800 sq. kms. There are more than 100 islands in the province; the largest and most well-known being Koh Samui. Geographically, most of the area is covered with forest and a high granite mountain range—the Tenasasarim range on the western border of Thailand and the Nakhon Si Thammarat range in the east. Numerous traces of ancient civilizations exist in Surat Thani from the prehistoric to late historic periods. Click here to find out more about a Siam Society trip to Nakhon Si Thammarat and Surat Thani Provinces in July.

Nana Plaza Inn - Under New Management...

One of the KSR originals and somewhere that had a place in KSR folklore, we were really sorry when we learned that Nana Plaza in had shut its doors to customers late last year. Although it was still accepting customers throughout the beginning of this year, they were winding down and just catering for bookings they received over Internet in 2007. Well, we are pleased to announce it is under new management. Like everywhere else on the strip, plans are for refurbishment, but for the time being, there's a rebirth of old school KSR! Click here for more on Nana Plaza Inn.

Bangkok Opera...
Details on the next 2 Bangkok Opera events... The first is a concert on 20 April including a modern composition by a young Thai composer and the other is an opera evening at the Sheraton Sukhumvit. The opera evening would be a chance to mix with 'hiso' (high society) Thais - a cultural event of its own! Get down there! Click here for more on Bangkok Opera.

Sighting...

Missing Person

Ton Smale writes: "We have received an e-mail from an American who claims that he saw a person who looks like Georgo Leydekkers from your Missing Persons page in Bangkok. It reads: 'The photo of the person you are inquiring about resembles a foreigner I encountered panhandling in front of the post office in Bangkok, not far from the Sheration Royal Orchid Hotel. This was in late August 2007. The person had the same facial features, beard, and body build except he wore his long hair in the dreadlock fashion common to the Rastafarians'". If anyone living in this area is able to check this sighting out for Ton, please do so, and perhaps contact Ton to let him know. Alternatively, please liaise with us here at KhaoSanroad.com.

James is a fantastic musician, most notably with the Piano and will likely not be far from the music world. He also enjoys the "odd flutter" on horses and such." Little-known Beaches...
During the weekend Friday 13 to Sunday 15 June 2008, Khun Kanitha Kasina-Ubol, Acting General Manager, will lead Siam Society members to visit some seldom-visited beaches, a forest reserve, and the Sam Roi Yot (Three Hundred Peaks) National Park. These little-visited beaches are in Bang Saphan, Bang Saphan Noi and Pathiu districts of Prachuap Khiri Khan and Chumphorn provinces. Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park is located some 320 kilometers south of Bangkok, and consists of great limestone hills plunging into the Gulf of Thailand. The highest point rises to 605 meters, and commands superb views of this meeting point of land and sea. Several caves, fine beaches and a unique marsh are among the other major attractions. Click here for more on this visit to visit to Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park in Prachuab Khirikhan Province.
